Massage is Essential Self Care

In a world of constant demands from work, children, and significant others; Who has the time to take an hour or two out of their lives and just lay back to relax? Let alone twice a month?

The truth is everyone needs to find the time. Stress can cause numerous health conditions, Migraines, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, poor sleep, and immune problems, if not managed properly. The way we hold our body on a day-to-day basis alone determines when and where we will feel the next physical dysfunction. Stress pulls the body away from homeostasis and pushes it into a space of survival.

As an instructor of a Denver massage school and part-time massage therapist, I know how difficult it seems to make time in the week to receive regular massages, but I assure you that the juice is worth the squeeze. Massage does a couple of vital things for our body every time we make room for it in our lives. It diminishes cortisol, the stress management hormone that our adrenal gland releases. It increases oxytocin, the feel-good or bonding hormone. It increases nutrient exchange and waste removal from our soft tissues and increases blood flow. It allows us to just let go of so many of life’s pressing problems. It creates feelings of wellness and increases its efficacy with regularly scheduled treatments. It increases our immune system's ability to fight antigens and helps us feel connected, grounded, and ready for the next challenge.
